A Balancing Act: Spring Rituals & Intentions

Plant your seeds, clean your drawers, thaw yourself out

Hello dear friends! Spring has officially sprung. If you’re like me, you may have spent the last few months mostly under a blanket and eating a lot of soup! I’ve always loved winter because well - I love cozy and it’s quite the cozy season. However, each year as the winter season ends and we head into the daylight-filled days of Spring - I remember why I love the sun so much. Can you feel it? Renewal is calling.

The light is hitting my walls differently these days (golden angle am I right?) and I’ve remembered that I do in fact love going outside and having brunch with my loved ones. If you’ve been feeling that same pull to stretch out your legs, put on a tank top, and get back out there, it is in fact not by accident.

We recently had the Spring Equinox - a moment of both balance and transition. A reminder to examine what areas of our life feel out of balance and where to bring in some harmony. In this week’s episode of the Cozy with Chelsea podcast I explore how to find balance in our lives and plant intentions as we prepare our gardens! If you haven’t listened yet, you can do so right here!

I think a lot of us view Spring as the return of the sun which is true in a sense - the amount of daylight is growing! But technically speaking, we are actually moving back into balance - equal amounts of daylight and darkness. Equilibrium. In the Northern Hemisphere of course. We have left the deep dark although we aren’t quite at the peak light of Summer yet. We are centered. We are grounded. We are balanced.

This Spring, I found myself asking: Where do I need a little more balance in my life? For me, the answer was in my schedule. The amount of sleep each night (let’s increase it please). I’ve been focusing on having more fun - is it fun to focus on fun? I’m also incorporating more movement outside since the weather allows for such a thing! Where can you identify some areas for balance in your own life?

I also talk a lot about rituals on the podcast - some simple, cozy ways to bring intention into your daily life. Here are a few rituals I am using this Spring to fully embrace the balance and new beginnings:

  1. Planting Your Intention (literally and metaphorically): There is something so satisfying about getting your hands in the dirt. This past week, I planted roses and lantanas and the lavender I planted last year has been blooming! The ritual is so simple. Plant a seed and as you do it - name one thing you want to grow in your life. Is it patience? Wealth? Stronger friendships? Your wish is planted right along with that seed. 🌱

  2. Sweeping the Threshold: I am not a Feng Shui master but I do know one! I have learned how powerful the entryway can be. It’s where everything enters your home. If the energy in your home is feeling heavy, you can simply sweep the doorway. Pick up the mat and sweep all that debris and dust away, and while you’re doing it, speak this intention: “Only what supports me and only what serves me gets to enter here.”

  3. Digital Spring Cleaning: We often think of spring cleaning (which I support and talk about in the episode) but what if we also incorporated some digital spring cleaning this year? I’m currently practicing an “observer” approach to social media and clicking “not interested” when I am well - not interested. It what I’m seeing doesn’t make me feel good, I’m muting it or deleting it entirely. This is something small you can incorporate, but these little tweaks can radically protect your peace.

  4. The One Drawer Rule: Speaking of spring cleaning - sure it would be great to entirely clean, organize, and redecorate the house. But how about we start with one drawer? One kitchen drawer, one nightstand, one cabinet. Take 10 minutes to bring you some organizing joy. You might just keep going!

My wish for your this Spring is that you find your point of balance. I hope you thaw out. I hope you enjoy some citrus scents and some lighter fabrics in the home. And if you have a Ninja Creami (like I just received for Christmas) perhaps you can make some homemade mango & maple syrup sorbet because it’s absolutely amazing. 🥭

Stay cozy this Spring and let me know in the comments - what is one Spring ritual you plan to try this year?

With care,
